Provide Log File

Log files are always the most interesting part if you run into any issues. So if you are asking for support or try to fix the problem for yourself, you mostly will need to take a look at those files or share them at forums and/or IRC.

We have several ways how to get the log file. Please take a look at the explanations below and choose the way you prefer.

The easiest way while using LibreELEC is to grab the log file via the LibreELEC settings addon.

Therefore enter the settings, navigate to LibreELECSystem → scroll down to Paste system logs and get short URL and press Enter

After that just wait a moment until the upload is finished and an additional window containing the URL will be shown. See those screenshots:

Note the URL which is shown in the window and provide it either to forums or IRC and hit OK to close the window.

Nearly everything can be done via SSH. Getting the log file is a single command.

SSH into your LibreELEC machine and enter the following command:

for a Kodi.log

paste /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log

for a system log (dmesg)

dmesg | paste

You will get an URL back. That will look like this:

USER
LE:~ # paste /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log http://sprunge.us/iLSX LE:~ # LE:~ # dmesg | paste http://sprunge.us/PjLL LE:~ #

Copy and paste that link to a browser you like to view the file yourself or provide it at our IRC channel or at forums.

As LibreELEC shares some interesting folders via SMB by default, we are able to get the log file in this way, too.

Access the Samba share and look for the “Logfile” folder:

Enter this folder and you will find a couple of *.zip files. Take the newest one and open it:

Inside this zip file are a bunch of other files. We only need the “KODI.log” file:

Extract that file and open it with an editor you like to view the content. If you want to share the content at forums or IRC, please copy and paste the full content for example to: http://pastebin.com/ and share the link to it.

Getting the log file via Kodis GUI is another easy way…

Installing the Kodi Log Uploader Add-on:

Using the Add-on:

Switch back to the 'Home' menu and then go to Add-ons, navigate to the right and hit Kodi Log Uploader. See those screenshots:

While looking at the new windows, either scan the QRcode or note the URL which is shown in that window and provide that to forums or IRC.

Hit Close after to close the window again.
